2004 Holiday Bowl

I flew down to see Cal play against Texas Tech in the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 30th. I got to hang out with old college pals Matt Cline, winemaker at Trinitas Cellars, and Tony Hartinger, principal at Meyers Nave, and had a really good time in spite of the huge loss.

Cal was no match for the Red Raiders who won 45-31. I hated to be proven correct in my prediction that Cal would lose, but even a long-term Cal fan such as myself had to see that Cal had been over-rated in the second half of the season. Coach Tedford had become too predicatble and QB Aaron Rodgers has proven to be good, but not great. Nonetheless, a 10-2 year is a real accomplishment and we all look forward to a revitalized Cal football program going forward.
