Fall River Fly Fishing

Over the last few days Sydney and I went on my annual Memorial Day fly fishing trip with old friends Matt Cline and Tony Hartinger (see the January Holiday Bowl video for more of Matt and Tony). Matt Cline brought daughters Margaret and Madeline and Tony Hartinger brought daughter Elise.

We've been doing this for the past 18 years or so. I've only missed two trips: once when Karen was giving birth to Ethan and last year becuase I was recovering from my motorcycle accident and could not use my arms very well.

This trip was a little different as we each brought at least one daughter. Matt and Tony had brought their daughters last year. In any event, it was another great trip.

Polly's 35th 4.30.05

It was a busy weekend for us. First, Tae Kwon Do testing on Friday night. Then on Saturday morning we drove down to my Uncle John's and Aunt Penny's place just outside of Lookingglass Oregon, about 3.5 hours from here. Their daughter Polly, my cousin, was having a party for her 35th birthday. Parties at "The Hill" are big affairs, and this one was a lot of fun. I don't like to function on only a very few hours sleep, but this late night affair followed by an early morning was well worth it.

TKD Testing 4.29.05

After 8 months of consistent training, last friday the kids had their first belt testing at their new Tae Kwon Do studio. It's been a tough transition as there are some big differences between schools, but everyone did fine. Ethan and Miles are now high red belts (next brown then black). Sydney is now a high blue belt (next step is red). Both the boys would be have been testing for their black belts if we had stayed in Santa Cruz. I think the change in training and requirements will be good for them in the long run.
